Santé : une étude révèle des conséquences dévastatrices quand on dort moins de 7 heures par nuit
Il est de plus en plus en commun de voir des personnes victimes de trouble de sommeil. Un mal parfois négligé et pourtant grave pour la santé de l’humain.
Les conséquences du manque de sommeil étant inquiétantes,
une étude a révélé d’ailleurs qu’elle pouvait être désastreuses au point de conduire à une démence.
La démence est un syndrome qui entraîne une dégradation de la mémoire, de l’autonomie, et affecte généralement les personnes âgées.
La forme la plus courante de démence est la maladie d’Alzheimer qui serait à l’origine de 60 à 70% des cas selon l’OMS.
Selon les résultats d’une étude britannique publiés ce mardi 20 avril dans la revue Nature Communications, dormir six heures ou moins par nuit est loin d’être suffisant.
L’analyse de la durée de sommeil de près de 8 000 adultes durant plus de 25 ans suggère que le risque de démence serait de 20 à 40% plus élevé chez les personnes qui dorment six heures par nuit ou moins, à l’âge de 50 ou 60 ans.
Ces chiffres se basent sur une comparaison des données avec les adultes qui ont des nuits “normales”, d’environ 7 heures.
Pour les personnes âgées de 50 à 70 ans, le risque de démence en cas de courtes nuits systématiques serait de 30%.
Selon le site français MSN, pour les besoins de cette étude, la durée de sommeil des participants a été évaluée à six reprises entre 1985 et 2015.
Puis, afin de préciser les estimations, 3 900 adultes ont également porté en 2012, une montre qui capte les mouvements pendant la nuit.
Ces observations qui émanent de l’Institut national français de la santé et de la recherche médicale (l’Inserm) et l’Université de Paris, en collaboration avec l’University College de Londres.
Si les résultats suggèrent l’existence d’un lien entre la durée du sommeil et le risque de démence, il n’ont pas pour autant permis d’établir une relation de cause à effet.
Selon l’OMS, près de dix millions de nouveaux cas de démence sont par ailleurs dénombrés chaque année dans le monde, dont la maladie d’Alzheimer.
